Georgia may be little known, but it packs a powerful punch to the unusual and fascinating. Georgia is strategically located between Europe and Asia. Natural wonders include the Black Sea beaches and the soaring Caucasus Mountain Range. But it is; for centuries, neighbouring countries and empires have coveted Georgia's strategic location on the ancient Silk Road trade route. Turkey, Russia, and the former Persian empire all desired a piece of Georgia's cake. Later, in the nineteenth century, Russia annexed the country. It was much later that Georgia gained its independence from the Soviet Union.
